History & culture

Bibimbap is often linked to Jeonju and royal court dining, where rice was topped with seasonal namul and gochujang. Tradition holds that mixing many colors on one bowl expressed balance and respect for the harvest. From the 20th century onward it spread through restaurants, home tables, and holiday meals across Korea. It is widely cited in UNESCO intangible heritage discussions and in diaspora communities abroad.
